FMP BLOG WEEK 3

this week in the recording studio i saw a friend in need, so as everyone in his group had turned up, i decided to help him out and get his guitar parts recorded. first we set up his guitar amp and logic and set the tempo to the track he was going to play. then once that was set we decided what types of microphones to use but due to limitation we only had two sure SM57, so we close mic'ed one at the front of the amp to get the initial sound from the guitar then we place the other microphone around the back of the amp, we decided to do this because we could then capture some of the rooms natural reverb.
Once we did this we noticed that the guitar amp was broken and gave us a lot of feedback, now this created a major problem due to the fact that the amp had a specific crunch distortion which we needed for the track, the way we corrected this problem was to use another amp but also us the pod so that we could have the distortion off the pod then run clean through another amp. Then we record roughly about 6-7 guitar tracks and also got some midi drums recorded for a rough drum beat so that we could record the drums the next week.
